The French Market Cookbook: Vegetarian Recipes from My Parisian Kitchen

Author: Clotilde Dusoulier | Language: English | ISBN: B00AXIZ5IQ | Format: EPUB

The French Market Cookbook: Vegetarian Recipes from My Parisian Kitchen Description

Cook from the farmer’s market with inspired vegetarian recipes—many of which are gluten-free and dairy-free—with a French twist, all highlighting seasonal produce.

Beloved ChocolateAndZucchini.com food blogger Clotilde Dusoulier is not a vegetarian. But she has, like many of us, chosen to eat less meat and fish, and is always looking for new ways to cook what looks best at the market. In The French Market Cookbook, she takes us through the seasons in 82 recipes—and explores the love story between French cuisine and vegetables.

Choosing what’s ripe and in season means Clotilde does not rely heavily on the cheese, cream, and pastas that often overpopulate vegetarian recipes. Instead she lets the bright flavors of the vegetables shine through: carrots are lightly spiced with star anise and vanilla in a soup made with almond milk; tomatoes are jazzed up by mustard in a gorgeous tart; winter squash stars in golden Corsican turnovers; and luscious peaches bake in a cardamom-scented custard. With 75 color photographs of the tempting dishes and the abundant markets of Paris, and with Clotilde’s charming stories of shopping and cooking in France, The French Market Cookbook is a transportive and beautiful cookbook for food lovers everywhere.

AAhhh, the joy of cooking! One of the hallmarks of any successful summer for me is the chance to read through old and favorite cookbooks as well as to welcome new ones. I was rewarded this year with the arrival of Clotilde Dusoulier's new cookbook, The French Market Cookbook. This delicious book is filled with fresh vegetarian recipes gleaned from the author's Parisian roots and wide-spread international travels. Departing from the confines of traditional French cuisine but saving and savoring the best, the author offers a sumptuous array of main dishes, appetizers, sides, salads, soups and desserts - all organized seasonally, photographed skillfully and artfully, and made accessible to even the most unseasoned cook. Ms. Dusoulier provides the most interesting introductions and anecdotes as accompaniments to her recipes, and her instructions and hints are always on the mark, almost instinctively addressing the questions on ingredients and processes that might occur to the American home cook. Most inviting may be the attitude with which the author encourages us in this book: her authentic celebration of fresh, healthful, creative recipes is offered with simplicity and good cheer, and we feel invigorated and empowered to start a new adventure in our own kitchens. Those who have followed Ms. Dusoulier's exceptional cooking blog, Chocolate&Zucchini, through the years, are already familiar with the author's style. Her curiosity, approachability and enthusiasm, as well as the hard work which clearly goes into recipe selection, creation and testing, delight her followers around the world. In this day of inflated reality stars and so-called "super chefs", it is refreshing to read thoughtful postings and entertaining observations from such a talented young chef who invites us to share her joy of cooking. This new cookbook is sure to entice and to satisfy - I'm off to the garden and the kitchen!

Well rounded vegetarian recipes using unique ingredients and fresh vegetables. I am not as creative in the kitchen as others might be so I am always on the lookout for a recipe book that might teach me how to make pastries (tarts, galettes, socas, and cookies) or soups using healthy ingredients like spelt or buckwheat or great spices like Star Anise (which is unique to me while it may be common to others). I am also a lover of ice cream and she provides a unique recipe for making ice cream that I have not seen in other ice cream books making books. And it's an easy recipe too, no cooking of the milk and egg because they aren't even ingredients. If you have ever found your cous cous to be bland, she provides a simple spice concoction called the Ras El Hanout which will solve that problem. A great cookbook with wonderfully flavorful recipes. Her emphasis on focusing on produce which is in season is fantastic. There are lentil recipes as well. Great for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians.
