Metro 2034

Author: Dmitry Glukhovsky | Language: English | ISBN: B00IRQIY98 | Format: EPUB

Metro 2034 Description

The basis of two bestselling computer games Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, the Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of NIGHT WATCH, Sergei Lukyanenko.

A year after the events of METRO 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro.

Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.

Noticeably better than the first, 2034 gives you more of a survivalist angle on the setting. Seeing the survivors trying to cope with a situation that threatens to be the ruin of them all, which hits quite close to the heart. As well significantly toning down the weird aspects of the first book.

In comparision I felt 2033 spent far too much time on painting each and every dysfunctional culture that had developed in the metro, something which isnt the case in 2034.

2034 is not a direct sequel to 2033, having a new primary cast. But familiar faces returns. Id warmly recommend 2034 as a worthy post apocalypse story to fans of the genre.

Far more mixed up than the first one. The characters histories are less related to one another and chronologically interrupt each other randomly and ambiguously throughout the book, which I find confusing and irritating. As well the plot is similar to the first book but far weaker to say the least. Glukhovsky finds another so called misconstrued "threat" to the metro that the heroes set out to defeat, but the threat this time has none of the mystery or malevolence of his first novel. Sadly it is not as good as Metro 2033. I feel the author was grasping for plot straws after a gripping first novel. Sadly not a quality repeat performance.
