I really enjoy David Zinczenko's "Eat This Not That" and "Cook This Not That" books so I was looking forward to Eat It To Beat It. In the book the author shares information on how to eat the right foods to combat health issues like high blood pressure and diabetes.

I love the format of the book, the color photos and the concept. The problem - David changes his mind about what is healthy and what is not from book to book.

In his supermarket guide and several cook books David tells you that olive oil mayo is best. There is an EAT THIS label on the picture of the olive oil mayo in the supermarket guide. It is an ingredient in several recipes in his other books. BUT suddenly in his new book olive oil mayo (which I have been buying based on his recommendation) is a bad for you Franken food and full fat mayo should be eaten instead. On my next trip to the grocery store, I had no idea which mayo to choose!

He also shows pictures of products that are the absolute "best" and in his other books he selected other products. In addition,he confuses the issue by using certain brands that are "best" in one book, and then using a another one of the same brands products as "worst" in this book to illustrate the same type of food. Yes ingredients will vary within the products but if he could stick to the same products as "best" from book to book and suggest other good ones it would be less confusing then constantly changing it. And some of the "best" products are hard to find at regular supermarkets.

As mentioned earlier, I love David's, "Cook This Not That" books and highly recommend them. Even though some of the recipes are repeated in several of the books (and they shouldn't be) I still love them. They have saved me many a calorie while enjoying delicious food.
