It can be really difficult to get some young people excited about reading books. Whether your kids are readers or haven't shown much curiosity yet, the James Patterson book "I Funny" and this book, its sequel, represent a great opportunity to get them started on a lifetime journey of reading adventure. The author's main character Jamie Grimes, is an atypical modern young boy in two respects ... he is wheelchair-bound and also is extremely bright and witty. Jamie also has powerful personal ambition. This book is about embracing your goals in the adversity of normal life hardships. It is a young-adult classic with lots of illustration and humor. Buy it as a gift and you just may be very pleased at the positive changes you will witness in the children you bought it for.

After the stupendous success of I Funny, Jamie Grimm is back in I Even Funnier, co-written by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein. Jamie has just won the New York state finals in the Planet's Funniest Kid Comic Contest, and he now has to go to Boston to compete in the national semi-finals. Jamie is no ordinary kid - he's in a wheelchair. But think again, he's no ordinary wheelchair bound kid. He's full of life, and has a good sense of humor. Everybody seems to love Jamie, except his uncle's bully son Stevie, who would not stop at anything to humiliate him. But that is a small part of life, and Jamie is taking it in his strides. When he first arrived at their house, he called it Smileyville because nobody ever smiled. And he sleeps in the garage because there is no spare room in the house.
Jamie, with his friends Gilda Gold, Joey Gaynor and Jimmy Pierce, will make you laugh until you groan with pain! Jamie has big dreams of being the best stand-up comic in the world, and he won't let anything stand in his way. He practices regularly, keeping almost everything aside. But nothing seems to be going right. His grades suffered. Joey's mom is having cancer. Joey gets into trouble at school and has to move in with Jamie, and then his uncle Frankie has a heart attack. It looks as if his one important dream will remain a dream. Will Jamie be able to find a way out of these seemingly insurmountable obstacles?
Though fun is the main ingredient of this book, it also has important lessons as well. One, life is not a bed of roses. One has to deal with difficulties. Two, difficulties are not meant to put us down. Rather, they are meant to make us stronger. Three, sometimes the heartaches of life can be minimized by a good dose of laughter/fun. The illustration by Laura Park is simply amazing. Every kid who takes a peep into the book will adore the story and its amazing illustration.
