There are a few books that my wife and I had to read before we got married. We had to read Love and Respect (Eggerichs) as well as For Men Only (Feldhahn) and For Women Only (Feldhahn). I loved the book and learned a lot about my wife to be. I learned about computer screens popping up, how she is still a little girl twirling around looking for acknowledgement and how she deep down loves and respects me (even though she may not say it). This book lead to a lot of discussion and over time I began to see that some of the topics and information presented didn't apply to her. She didn't always want to talk right away or just other things that make her an `outlier' in different topics presented.
I had the opportunity to re-read this book after 4 years of marriage and I really like and respect what the author did for me and other men who read this book. I resisted the temptation to turn right to the chapter about sex (I did this the first time I read it 5 years ago) and slowly read each chapter and examined what I thought I knew and what I know now.
This is the updated version of the book and it presents new information and new studies but generally it is all the same. Feldhahn is great at presenting surveys in a different way than just, here are the facts. Stories of how they obtained the information are nice and stories of experiences helped to assist in delivering the results.
If you have never read this book and you are married, read it. If you are getting married soon, read it. If you plan to get married one day, read it. Basically what I am saying is, read this book. It will help you and save you some headache because you might be able to respond in the correct way when communicating with your lovely wife/fiancé/girlfriend.

I must confess as I read that claim I thought of the apocryphal story of the man who found a magic lamp and was granted only one wish. He wished for a road to be built from America to Europe so he could drive to Europe. The Genie informed him that’s quite unreasonable. It’s such a great distance and the water was extremely deep and that he should ask for something else. So the man said, “I want to know how to understand my wife.” The Genie responded. “Do you want that to be a two-lane or four-lane road to Europe?” This book makes good on the claim that you can gain greater insight into how women think.
The authors, Shaunti and Jeff Feldhahn, have created this book as a companion guide to their earlier book, For Women Only. For Men Only shares the results of hundreds of personal interviews, anecdotal information from women’s focus groups, and a national survey of four hundred women. This book is written from a man’s perspective as the first sentence states. ”Like some guys I know, you might be tempted to skip this introduction and jump right to the sex chapter” (p. 1). Men, I encourage you to read the entire book to have a loving and harmonious relationship with your spouse.
