About the Author
Award-winning Canadian cartoonist Jeff Lemire is the creator of the acclaimed monthly comic book series SWEET TOOTH published by DC/Vertigo and the award winning graphic novel Essex County published by Top Shelf.
Now one of DC Comics cornerstone writers, Jeff was prominent in the publisher's recent "New 52" line-wide relaunch as the writer of ANIMAL MAN and FRANKENSTEIN: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. He has also written the monthly adventures of SUPERBOY and THE ATOM and is set to tackle JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK.
In 2008 Jeff won the Schuster Award for Best Canadian Cartoonist and The Doug Wright Award for Best Emerging Talent. He also won the American Library Association's prestigious Alex Award, recognizing books for adults with specific teen appeal. He has also been nominated for 5 Eisner awards and 5 Harvey Awards.
In 2010 Essex County was named as one of the five Essential Canadian Novels of the Decade. He currently lives and works in Toronto with his wife and son.

Good ol' Justice League Dark. A title that started out on a great premise of the DC Universes list of B and C list magic/occult figures to tackle the more mystical side of things, whereas the Justice League really do not excel in. The first writer of the series Peter Milligan was good I think, and then Jeff Lemire took over and made the series pretty incredible. While Lemire does stay on as writer, he is now joined by Ray Fawkes as co-writer/plotter for the series, so Lemire can focus on the "Trinity War" issues in the next volume. What we get is two stand alone tales that are good on their own, but this third volume lacks something.
JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK VOL.3: THE DEATH OF MAGIC collects issues #14 - #21. Issue #14 is a stand alone/aftermath issue of Frankenstein, Amaya, and Black Orchid exploring the house of Mysteries. Issues #15 - #18 deal with the "Death of Magic" arc, and issues #19 - #21 is the "Horror City" arc.
After the conclusion in Justice League Dark Vol. 2: The Books of Magic (The New 52) (Jla (Justice League of America) (Graphic Novels)), the books are not what the JLD thought they were; instead, they are a gateway to another world filled with magical properties, and yet, the world is governed and controlled by the technological city of Epoch, with the cities guardian against magic Vikar to uphold the authority. And oddly enough, the League has gone through some odd physical changes when in this new world! With the JLD now involved, it means all out war between magic and technology, as well as restoring the balance of power in this world, before it destroys everything.
I'm not a regular reader of Justice League Dark. It's not that I don't like John Constantine or any of the other characters involved in the monthly title. Frankly, I just don't have time to spare to pick up another book to read on a regular basis. DC Comics once again found a way to lure me in. As I flipped through "Justice League Dark Volume 3: The Death of Magic," I was bombarded with pages full of Swamp Thing and other creatures in his form.
"Justice League Dark Volume 3: The Death of Magic" compiles issues 14 through 21 of the monthly series. The graphic novel is split up into two story arcs entitled "The Death of Magic" and "Horror City." An introduction chapter entitled "Enter the House of Mystery" sets everything in motion.
"The Death of Magic" takes Tim Hunter and Zatanna into another dimension through the Books of Magic. They're transported to a world full of magical creatures who once ruled before being cast out by mad scientists. The Justice League Dark gang enters the mystical world in order to rescue the two banished souls from an eternity of torment.
"Horror City" pits the Justice League Dark against Doctor Destiny. The mysterious villain causes our heroes to experience horrific events which emotionally cripple and keep them from being able to do battle. Can the members of this motley supernatural bunch keep it together long enough to save the world from Doctor Destiny and his cataclysmic black arts?
Writers Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes pen "Justice League Dark Volume 3: The Death of Magic." They keep a steady pace of action always moving forward through each issue.
