About the Author

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is best remembered for the creation of Sherlock Holmes, the world’s most famous fictional detective, though in his lifetime Doyle also penned essays, poems, short stories, science fiction, nonfiction, historical novels, political treatises, and lectures on Spiritualism.

It was in 1887’s A Study in Scarlet that Sherlock Holmes and his trusty companion, Dr. John Watson, first appeared. Doyle eventually became weary of the stories, hugely popular with both British and American readers, and killed off Holmes in the 1893 short story “The Final Problem”—only to resurrect the character years later in The Hound of the Baskervilles. On July 7, 1930, Doyle died in England of heart failure. His stories of the very logical Sherlock Holmes, which so precisely reflect the latter part of nineteenth-century Victorian England, still capture the imaginations of readers today.

Entire Set of Works and Working TOC

When searching for a good copy I noticed two things from the reviews: (1) a lot of options didn't actually have the ENTIRE collection, (2) TOC and organization was poor in most options. Being the first to review this item, I'll offer my opinion. I hope this helps out anyone looking to purchase this book.

Bought on the Kindle Fire Hd. I have yet to read the entire book - this is just a review on the collection, TOC, and organization. However, from what I have read there were no errors. I'll update later when I actually finish the book.

From what I can tell, this option does in fact offer the entire collection and is set up in the following manner. The TOC does include links to individual short stories; I disregarded them here out of practicality.
Volume I
A Study In Scarlet (Part 1 and 2)
(Mr. Sherlock Holmes, The Science of Deduction, The Lauriston Garden Mystery, ect.)
The Sign of Four
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

The TOC works perfectly fine. It may be a little confusing for some though. I'd recommend you take a look at "peak inside" option Amazon offers if you're a bit confused. There's really no difference between any other Kindle books I've bought. There are actually two TOC's - one displaying volumes and the other for content within the volumes. The "Volumes" TOC is located right being the cover (Loc 2). The Volume TOC will link you to individual volumes; then there will be a TOC for the volume itself.Read more ›

Superior Ebook

This is the way ebooks should be designed! Not only is the a complete collection of Holmes fiction, it is presented with generous illustrations throughout. And best and most important of all, you can locate anything you wish to read or review quickly and simply. Most other similar Holmes ebook compendium collections are terribly designed with little or no illustrative material, and worst of all they load with terrible delays, and often inaccurately. This book, unlike many other classic ebbooks, was put together with care and grace. My favorite edition of Sherlock Holmes in ebook format.

Great bookset, the pictures don't do it justice. I was dubious when I bought it, now I'm absolutely certain it was the right choice.
The bookset contains every book on Sherclock by Doyle and is realy beautfiul. Hardcover, good paper, nice decorations.
If you want to start reading Sherlock for the first time or want to have the collection, this is definitley the way to go.

Cool Set, Cheaper than Expected Binding

This is not a review of the contents of this set or the works of Doyle. It is simply a review of this box set. It is cool looking and the way the box folds up and opens is "neat" but after the first moment of oohing and ahhing my husband (who was the recipient of this gift) commented that the binding looked a little bit cheap. I inspected it closer and these books do not appear to be very durable. There are nicer sets out there. I got a discount on the item through a coupon code so at the price I paid I feel it was reasonable, but there is no way this set is worth the $96 it is currently priced at.

A truly complete edition lovingly prepared

First of all they are competing e-book kindle editions of the complete Sherlock Holmes. This heirloom edition has the clear advantage of truly being complete unlike other or practically all other e-book editions. The problem lies with the final set of short stories titled the casebook of Sherlock Holmes. They were written after people clamored for more Sherlock Holmes stories after Conan Doyle supposedly eliminates him in the short novel the last bow. Other competing editions in e-book form do not have these final set of short stories again titled the casebook of Sherlock Holmes. This can be true of a nicely leather bound book with nice not too small print from Canterbury classics. Speaking of print size it is comfortably large with even illustrations. Other editions have problems with comfortable print size. No need to play with font size here. Indexing and table of contents are excellently done in a three volume set for ready access to the short novels and short stories. With all this going for the e-book edition and the greatness of the Sherlock homes stories what more can you ask for. A well deserved five stars. Eric warwick

Yes, it really is Complete

Most important thing to know about this volume is that it really is the Complete Sherlock Holmes, in the chronological order in which Conan Doyle wrote them. They are organized within volumes well known to Sherlock Holmes fans, and it is worth it to purchase this edition to obtain the Table of Contents, which makes it clear and easy to see how the stories are organized.

Otherwise, these wonderful stories speak for themselves, and the Kindle edition appears to be accurate. I have only read the first dozen or so novellas and stories, but all appear to have been well translated to the Kindle format. It's a pity the drawings from several of the original collections were not included, but obviously people read these stories because of their love for Conan Doyle's immortal Holmes and Watson, and not for the "pictures". The warts from the original stories remain, such as Conan Doyle forgetting Watson's first name near the beginning of "The Man with the Twisted Lip," having Watson's own wife call him "James" instead of John. All perfectly forgivable, errors of a different time, and before all the Sherlock stories were collected in one or two volumes and could be read in a short period of time, rather than over the course of many years, the way Conan Doyle wrote them.

The stories still hold up remarkably well, and are great fun, in spite of all the Sherlock Holmes movies, and now TV shows, that have sent him in innumerable directions never intended by Conan Doyle. Although he no doubt would have a good chuckle over all of them. If you are a fan of the original Sherlock Holmes (and Watson), and want to own the full set in your Kindle, you cannot go wrong with this set.
