The colour editions of the Scott Pilgrim series do something truly wonderful and rarely really appreciated in their re-presenting of Brian Lee O'Malley's beautiful illustration and inkwork. For fans of Scott Pilgrim, these color editions do not replace the original black and white versions, they enhance the beautiful Canadien Toronto world of Scott Pilgrim in vibrant, diligently-done color enhancement by Nathan Fairbairn, thereby letting you experience the series all over again in a new and captivating way. These editions come in a slightly-larger-than-the-original paperback versions, in hardcover, on high-quality paper printed with high-quality ink at an amazingly a low price for the quality that you're getting. This ain't no newsprint with bleeding ink! Oni Comics, who has been impressing me for over 10 years with consistently amazing printing, clearly shows that they appreciate their readers and want to give them the best they can, which is assuring and much appreciated by those of us who fear the loss of these quality traits, let alone the reduced number of printed works in this increasingly-digital age. For those readers introduced to Scott Pilgrim by the movie, currently, or in the future, these color versions are at once more inviting for those not as drawn to reading black-and-white comics and perhaps a preferred choice for those looking to give the gift of Scott Pilgrim.
When Oni started printing these color versions, my greatest fear was that there wouldn't be enough support for them to make it to the last volume, as they were a re-tooling of a multi-volume work, not presented outright at the original publication in this version, or as one large compendium, but instead in the same, faithful presentation as the originals (which is ultimately preferable).
