I gave this blurb some in-my-head shit when I read it first. It struck me as being self-indulgent. The artistic process ends with the content. The blurb is commercial. The blurb is there to sell the book, not to act as an appendix. Am I alone in this?
Review
Anyway, the book. We meet our heroine, Alexa as a 6-year old when she first sees her abused 8-year old neighbor. He’s clearly distraught and distrustful but Alexa cares for him and asks his name. We jump forward in time and when we meet Alexa again she’s working as a social worker in Sydney and appears to be very good at her job. Somewhere along the line, Alexa picked up a stalker. He’s pretty much the world’s worst stalker. When she’s at the park, he dithers around in a local café. When she’s getting out of her car, he’s wandering around, pretending to study the greenery. As he’s contemplating the foliage one day, Alexa gets attacked and nearly raped. Our mystery man with a passion for horticulture and following young ladies intervenes and saves her. He’s a good guy! He’s the Sympathetic Stalker!
Oooh no. No he’s not.
Our Stalker (Twitch – that’s his name *sad face*) and Alexa begin a stringless sexual relationship, coloured with some light BDSM and Aholery. As the story is told in alternating POV, we realise that Twitch is not your usual loved-up creepy stalker, he’s actually dangerous. He intends to harm Alexa somehow for some unknown slight. While his POV is appreciated (mostly because I couldn’t see how Twitch was all that amazing, despite his sexin’ skillz, so it was good to see his growing affection for Alexa), it also highlighted Alexa’s rampant stupidity in trusting him.
Sitting down to write this review is one of the hardest things that I have to do. I still don’t know what’s going to come from these magic fingers of mine. To simply put it, I am confused. I’m not sure if I hated this story because it makes me want to feel things I love, or if I loved it because it made me feel things I didn’t want to hate.
RAW. How I feel. Stripped bare. I started reading this story about Twitch and Alexa, (Lexi). A story that is dark in its conception and delivery but has the most awe-inspiring moments of light and love that it almost chokes you, making you yearn for a clarity that you don’t have. Two people who meet at a young age over an incident that brings Lexi to Twitch, an incident that should have had them running scared but no, they are strong enough to do what needs to be done and then part ways. Years later, across oceans, they meet again, well sort of. Twitch can’t keep Lexi from his mind, doing whatever it takes to get her, to destroy her, to posses her. Then you have Lexi, having no idea who Twitch is but knows he is hers, hers to trust, to want, to hate. When it comes time for Twitch to come to Lexi’s need that’s when the switch is flipped and there’s no going back.
Completely unaware of my surroundings, I heard nothing. I was taken for a ride that had me an emotional mess. I was sad for the innocence lost. I laughed at the absurdity of this story. I yelled at the horror. I was lost to the sensations of my own wants. I was surprised at how I loved the darkness of it. All the while I kept looking at my percentage on my kindle because I kept saying, “Am I done yet?!” Knowing full well that I didn’t want it to end! And when it did…. MIND BLOWN! One can only HOPE that there is more to this and coming soon!
