The Black Book works best when used with the authentic SAT questions in the “Blue Book,” which is the College Board’s
Official SAT Study Guide. The Black Book shows you how to beat the SAT, while the Blue Book gives you real SAT questions to practice with. (The SAT Prep Black Book has no affiliation with the College Board.)
The Black Book and the Blue Book are all you need to get your best possible SAT score.
The Black Book is the ideal SAT book for 3 major reasons:
It actually works, making it unique in the SAT prep field. There are no lists of “SAT vocab” to memorize or anything like that. Instead, you'll exploit design flaws in the SAT, using its own “SAT tricks" against it.The Black Book contains 250+ solutions for real SAT questions from the Blue Book, so you know it actually works. (You'll need the 2nd edition of the Blue Book to use these solutions.) The Black Book is a clear, concise roadmap to the SAT. (See the table of contents below). It explains exactly how every SAT question works, and how to beat it in the least time possible.SAT Book Table Of Contents (Selected)

Mike has spent over a decade deconstructing the SAT and teaching tens of thousands through a variety of formats. He uses his love of sports and video games, and his extensive experience as a tutor and coach, to analyze and explain the test. Many students have reported higher SAT scores after using his ideas for an afternoon or a weekend; others prefer to set aside months to get ready. No matter your timeframe, this SAT book can help.

I've been tutoring students to take the SAT since my undergrad days at Harvard. (I did pretty well myself, scoring in the 99.9th percentile in high school.) I've read through dozens of review books, and used many different ones over the years. This is one of the better ones. It has material and advice that can't be found elsewhere... especially on how the test is made and patterns to look for in correct and incorrect answers. It's actually quite brilliant in these regards. For example, the most important point he makes is that the Reading questions are NOT open to interpretation-- there is ALWAYS one correct answer. This shift in thinking will affect greatly how you approach the Reading section. (I won't give away any other tips. He wrote the book and you should pay him for his advice. That's only fair!) Notwithstanding the title of my review, I recommend even those shooting for an 800 to take a look at this book for that information.
However, the book is not perfect, and I disagree strongly with some of his other advice. Some of this advice is misguided and, in my opinion, dangerous.
The first piece of advice that I feel is incorrect is that he recommends you not spend your time memorizing vocabulary lists. He gives two reasons for this: The first is because the SAT does not repeat words, so you would be wasting your time. The second is that, "...on average, most test-takes will encounter somewhere between 2 and 8 questions per test in which challenging vocabulary poses a serious obstacle.... it's a little ridiculous, in my opinion, to devote all that memorization effort to the hope that it MIGHT help us answer 6 more questions correctly." (That is a direct quote from the book.) The thing is, he is WRONG on both counts.
